Chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting

I’ve dreamt about this. Visualized. Daydreamed about baking, rotating, and icing a layered cake. The experience was as satisfying as I imagined it to be.

After watching countless time-lapsed cake decorating videos on YouTube, scrolling through Instagram for ideas, I’ve finally made my very own layered cake. While not perfect, it’s done.

This is a trial run for Miles’ first birthday. I knew I wanted to bake and decorate his first birthday cake because I had this vision of it in my head and I hoped to get it just right.

I did learn a few things:

  1. I think I came into this challenge thinking it’s a quick baking session because of the time-lapsed and edited videos I’ve watched. I was wrong. This process is something that can’t be rushed.
  2. Look at the cake from all angles, and make sure the layers are level or you’ll have a wonky cake.
  3. You don’t need a stand mixer to make this cake, but I believe it would’ve sped up the process.
